Abhishek Bachchan Will Be Missed On The IIFAA Stage

The grapevine was abuzz with news that the Bachchans are patching up with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), and that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya would perform at the event in Toronto too. But junior Bachchan has slammed the news.
‘Just to clarify… Neither Aishwarya nor I will be performing or attending IIFA Toronto. Classic case of jumping the gun!’ Abhishek posted on his Twitter page.
His father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan had been the brand ambassador of the IIFA awards since their inception in 2000, but last year, Big B couldn’t attend the event in Sri Lanka, and the concept of a brand ambassador itself was dropped.
Amitabh had earlier clarified that he would not be attending the event this year too.
‘Not coming to Toronto IIFA… IIFA says my services are not required,’ he had tweeted.
The IIFA weekend is to be held June 23-25. Source

Big B On His Role In Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan’s name is synonymous with Hindi cinema, and he is considered one of the finest actors in the world. He has played a variety of roles over his 40 years in the Industry and he is still creating exciting new characters and performances.
Coming up on July 1st is the highly anticipated Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, which has Mr. Bachchan fighting, dancing, singing and, of course, acting as only he can do it, with style, flair, brilliance, and above all being cool! We got the honor of conducting an email interview with Mr. Bachchan and he talked about about all things Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, how he stays in shape, what he thinks of Hindi cinema, and so much more!
How do you decide on which roles you will play?
The role should be challenging, the story around it of importance, and the maker should be one that I feel shall be able to do justice.
What was it about the character in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap that made you want to take on the challenge of playing him?
When you are nearing 70 any role that comes to you is a challenge! It’s a wonder, first, that you are being considered at all! But when Ram Gopal Varma brought Puri Jagannath to meet me and urged me to do his film, I readily agreed after hearing the story and its treatment. The character was trendy, unapologetic, and strong. It excited me to be doing something that I had not done for a very long time, in fact, not since my early years. Apart from the character, the storyline was interesting too, and so I went ahead.
Can you tell us about your character?
He is an ex-gangster, living out of the country, but back in town on a mission.
What is the story of the film from your character’s point of view?
Well, telling you the story would not be very prudent at this stage; it would not be ethical to put down a spoiler, but as I said he is on a mission and he will try to make sure that the mission is completed amicably.
What was it like revisiting the role of the angry young man?
I am not so sure how to address this question. Revisiting the ‘angry young man’ would mean a classification, which I have never believed in. I believe in the role to be played and I believe that anger is a very natural human phenomena. I was angry in Mohabbatein and as much in Black too, but the character was angry. To specify that it is being revisited in Bbuddah would not be entirely correct.
In Bbuddah, you are fighting and dancing. How do you stay in such good shape to do that?
Oh, Dear! It takes far too much effort to be able to do all that has been asked of me in the film at this age. But yes, I follow a strict gym regime and hope and pray that all goes well when the camera rolls. I also feel that there is an additional rush of energy and adrenalin that goes through all actors once they face the camera. The location, the ambience, the fellow artists, the encouragement from the working team all together somehow gears you up and you get through it.
Tell us about working with Hema Malini and the rest of the cast Sonu Sood, Raveena Tandon, and Sonal Chauhan.
Hema ji has been a long time colleague and co-artist. She has been most dignified and accomplished in whatever she has done with me; we have done some rather interesting films. She is playing opposite me in Bbuddah and that is all I can reveal at the moment. Sonu Sood is a first time with me. He comes with an excellent record and has been a joy to work with. Raveena is an old hand at it and we have done films together in the past. It is wonderful to see her continuing to work with the same amount of gusto and energy as before. She has virtually grown up in front of me; her Father Ravi Tandon directing me in Majboor. Sonal Chauhan is another first with me. She is lovely to look at and pretty, and like all the younger generation of today, comes with great confidence and preparation. There is another young lady, Charmee, in the film. She comes from the South films and is very spunky and talented. In all, the entire team has been a privilege to be with.
What about working with the director Puri Jagannath?
I had seen Puri’s work in Pokhiri, his Telugu film, which I had enjoyed greatly, so I was aware of his calibre. His approach is modern and fresh, young and of today’s generation. He has good story sense and has of course his own unique style of presentation. I have greatly enjoyed working with him and would love to continue doing more films under his direction.
What are your thoughts when first approaching a new project?
They are most frightening and full of nervousness. Ask any actor and they shall reveal that the first day of the shoot is always the most stressful and filled with uncertainty. But as the days and hours go by things begin to ease out, the working conditions and process look comfortable, and then you settle down into it. After that it’s the completion and the anxiety of the results, and then the hopes of its reaction from the audience. If it does well, you start worrying about how to continue the streak with the next; if not, you get down to working on how to make the next successful. You see, it’s just a never-ending process.
How do you prepare for your films?
Most of the preparations are done by the director. It is his vision and story and how he would like to treat it, so mostly you go by what they have to say. If there are inputs which you feel need to be expressed, that is done before the shooting starts. If there are specific areas where research is required, that is undergone, like learning the language of the physically challenged in the film Black.
What excites you about making films?
Well, first off that you are employed! Ha! No, but jokes aside, its the opportunity of playing varied characters in different situations and trying to tackle those moments with some amount of ability.
You also sung on the OST for Buddha. Tell us about that experience. Do you have a favorite song?
OST! I had to ask Abhishek what that was .. ha ha .. Its the Official Sound Track, right ? Yes, I have sung 3 of the songs that are related to me. One, the theme of the title sung in the style called ‘acapella’, which is that every sound that you hear on the track is from my voice, even the instruments! The second is the title again but done on a style called ‘DubBeat’, which is very hard rock and they tell me a first for Indian Film Music. And there is a lyrical soft number ‘Haal e Dil’ which is my favourite - a beautiful melody, with a great feel. Its the theme for Hema ji and me in the film.
How has Hindi cinema changed since you first played the angry young man until now?
I think technically there has been huge advancement. The speed of narration and presentation has become immense. There is brevity in expression, but the language has deteriorated. The lyricism and poetry in dialogues and song words has virtually disappeared, and that is sad. Also, the content of the writing on the screen plays and stories has depleted. Perhaps that is what the new generation wants. Who knows!
Looking back over your career how would you describe your journey as an actor? Did you ever imagine when you first stepped onto a film set that all these years later you would be where you are today?
Looking back, I need to thank my stars, and the blessings of my parents and the Almighty and my well wishers, for putting me where I find myself today. It’s been over 40 years in the business and I am indebted that there are still some that give me respect and admiration. I am fortunate that I had the opportunity to have worked with some of the greatest makers this Industry has seen, as well as given me occasion to have worked with the most talented bunch of artists as my colleagues. I do not think that I am at any special place today. What really has been special is the tolerance of those that have loved and wished well for me - my fans!!
What do you think makes Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap a film everyone wants to see?
It is entertaining!!
The early response to the promos was fantastic. How much does your fans support mean to you?
Fans are the be all and end all of what we are. They make us, and they have the capacity to break us. We shall always respect their love and affection, either way. Source

Akshay Kumar’s Joker Is In Trouble

When he started work on JOKER, it was meant to be one of its own kind of an experiment as in the current times at Bollywood, no one had attempted a 3D film before. However HAUNTED came out of nowhere and turned into a success. Now for Shirish Kunder, director of JOKER, there are some more worries ahead as Shahrukh Khan is also thinking of converting RA.ONE into 3D.
Says a well placed source from the film’s production team, “When Shirish had envisioned JOKER, he was one of the first Bollywood filmmakers to do so. Now with other films also following suit, Shirish is bound to feel the heat.”
As per insiders, once Akshay Kumar returns from London after wrapping up a schedule for HOUSEFULL 2, Shirish would be showing him the results of what has been shot so far for JOKER. This is the time when he would be also having talks with him around adding on something even more spectacular in the scenes that are yet to be shot. Since the film has a fantasy setting to it with an alien element incorporated as well, Shirish is confident though that he can play around with the technology and refine it to get the best results.
The filmmaker isn’t willing to reveal much though when asked if he was indeed revisiting JOKER due to all the pressure surrounding him and his film. “From where do you hear such stories,” he immediately snaps back, “There is no truth to it.”
When told that this piece of information came from one of his technical crew members, he softened up and said, “We have everything finalised. For JOKER too we would be having nothing but the best of the VFX which would be truly belonging to never seen before category.”
We really hope that’s truly the case, Shirish. Source

Entire Bollywood Mourns The Sad Demise Of MF Hussain

The news of veteran painter MF Husain having passed away in London on Thursday has upset not only the art world, but also Bollywood.
Of the ones who shared a rather special bond with the painter as his muses include actors Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Tabu, Amrita Rao and Vidya Balan. Madhuri who was shocked to learn about the painter’s sad demise — who had incidentally even directed her in his ambitious directorial debut Gaja Gamini — said that it was as much a personal loss as it was for the art world. “It’s such a shocking news. I still can’t believe that a person who was always so full of life is no more. God bless his soul,” said the Denver-based actor.
Back home, Vidya too confesses to being shocked by the news. “What a celebration of life, colour and glory. Having said that, however long a life, for an artist as great as him, it still seems short… May his soul rest in peace,” said Vidya, adding that she will ‘always cherish the fact that he wanted to make a film with me!’
Incidentally, the artist was also planning to make a film with another of his favourite actor Amrita Rao, who also happened to spend a vacation with the artist at his London home recently. “I am totally in shock. He simply loved life. Each time that we have chatted off late I have been telling him that he’s growing younger and more energetic. In fact he even shared his plans to host a rather big show to exhibit all his works on Indian cinema to celebrate him turning 100. He was so full of life that I can still not believe that he’s no more.”
Recalling her recent visit where she met up with the painter Amrita adds, “Husainji was the perfect host and although his health was a little down, his spirits were as always like that of a youngster. That’s how he’d want us to remember him as — an artist who lived his life to the fullest and inspired others to do so too!”
Some of the celebrities who tweeted their messages through Twitter:
Celina Jaitely: My God what a tragic loss..Hussein saab is no more..I met him last in Dubai at the emirates towers some months ago ..just cannot believe it.
Sophie Choudhry: #MFHussain May ur soul RIP far away frm the insanities of this oft cruel world & may the sky become ur new canvas.Thank you for your beautiful art.

Salman Khan’s Thoughts On Baba Ramdev

When Salman Khan was asked about Baba Ramdev and his fast, the star replied in his inimitable way that he knew only of three Babas…
1 The Baba at home (he meant his father Salim Khan)
2 Bollywood’s Baba (Sanjay Dutt who is fondly called Baba)
3 And Sai Baba (the Shirdi Sai Baba who several Bollywood folk hold in reverence)
Obviously Sallu is not exactly a yoga fanatic as he believes in pumping iron only in the gym, so the Ready star remains clueless about Baba Ramdev’s yogic existence! Source

Jaqueline Fernandes has finally arrived. After appearing in forgettable films like Aladin and Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai and a brief appearance as the sexy Dhanno in Housefull, the Sri Lankan beauty is stepping in Mallika Sherawat’s famous shoes for Murder-2.
With other high-profile projects like Housefull 2 (she has a full length role in the sequel) and Raaz 3 lined up, Jacqueline is busy brushing up her acting skills.
In conversation with Sonil Dedhia, Jacqueline talks about her experience of working with the Bhatts, inevitable comparisons with Mallika Sherawat and why she has no reservations in doing a glamorous role.
How has your Bollywood experience been so far?
The films I did are different from each other and I enjoyed playing both roles and also the item number that I did in Housefull. I am lucky to have worked in two films. It’s been an exciting phase so far. I have just started my career and have a long way to go.
The Bhatts are known to have made the careers of a lot of their leading ladies.
I am fortunate that I got an opportunity to be a part of such a huge franchise. The Bhatts are an amazing family and a production house to work with and I guess anyone will back me up for this.
I have had the best time working with them as they treated me like family and have pampered me on the sets and they were always open for suggestions. I am looking forward to doing a lot more movies with them. I just hope that I have delivered what they expected.

Abhishek Bachchan Fumes Over Media

Abhishek Bachchan might be considered to be one of the most cool-headed guys in town, but lately the actor showed the media not-so-cool side of his. Now, hear the story.
According to reliable sources, at the launch of the DVD event of his last film (damp squib) DUM MAARO DUM, Abhishek was miffed by a few questions and the actor made no efforts to hide that fuming expression.
Adds our source, “Abhishek Bachchan was displaying his uncool side for most parts of the press meet. It all started with a journo asking a few unrelated questions that ticked off the actor. Abhishek was very curt in his defense. Though his expression gave away that he was angry, but an occasional smile hinted that he was trying to balance the situation.”
Though earlier too Abhishek has been asked odd questions at press meets, but this time it seemed he was ill at ease facing such unexpected queries. Anyways, let’s hope this was just an odd exception that showed how uncool Jr Bachchan can be at times. Source

Bhindi Bazaar Babe Warns Her Mother For Her Bold Scenes

Lucknow girl Vedita Pratap Singh, who has shot two bold scenes in her debut film Bhindi Bazaar Inc., says nothing is imposed upon the actors and that she has already warned her mother about the lovemaking sequences.
“I warned my mother about the scenes and have already told her so that she doesn’t get shocked (on seeing them). But my mother was like, ‘It’s okay, I understand this is your profession. But maintain your dignity and respect.’ I know I have to do that and I’m careful about that,” the 24-year-old, whose parents were not comfortable with her joining movies, said.
She says she will never compromise to step up the ladder. “I have struggled till now and I will not compromise. My self-respect is important to me. If two years down the line, I feel that I am not getting the kind of roles I want, I can always go to television.”
No one is forced to do anything here, she said.
“It depends on the individual. No one is forced here. If you want to do something, then that’s your decision. No one will push you into something in this industry and I am firm that I don’t want to do anything that my conscience won’t allow,” she added.
Vedita will be seen as Shabana, an over-ambitious girl who can go to any limit to achieve what she wants in life. She has two intimate scenes, one with actor Pawan Malhotra and the other with Prashant Narayan in the movie.
She had initial inhibitions about shooting the lovemaking scenes.
“Initially, I was a bit taken aback because I had not done anything of this sort before. But I got used to the idea after a while. I realised Shabana is a strong character and these scenes are important, so I went ahead with them,” said Vedita.
“I was lucky, I got to do these scenes with professionals like Pawan Malhotra and Prashant Narayan. They were so focused and made me so comfortable that I felt much better. All my nervousness and hesitation just vanished. It was all very technical and when I saw the whole thing on screen, I realised it was very normal. There is nothing vulgar,” she added.
Set in Mumbai, Bhindi Bazaar Inc. is about pick-pocketing, an art which helps many earn their bread and butter. Director Ankush Bhatt has teamed up with actors like Kay Kay Menon, Deepti Naval, and Shilpa Shukla to bring this story on screen.
So does she feel that skin show or bold scenes are important nowadays to grab eyeballs?
“I don’t think audience is foolish. If there is extra skin show and unnecessary vulgarity, they will notice it and will not appreciate it. So it doesn’t make sense to do something that people will question. I don’t think that a forced skin show is required to gain masses attention.
“Definitely the glamour bit is necessary, but that doesn’t mean that to look sexy you have to just drop your clothes and look vulgar and crass. There is a way of doing it,” said the budding actress.

Akshay Kumar Begins Shooting For Housefull 2 With Parachute Stunt

Actor Akshay Kumar is in action mode. On one hand, he is hosting Khatron Ke Khiladi 4 while, on the other, he flagged off the opening scene of Housefull 2 by shooting a parachute stunt on the outskirts of London.
‘Akshay has never done anything like this before and he’s really excited. I’m cool because I know the greatest stuntman in the country will pull off the shot effectively. I couldn’t have asked for a better first shot,’ said director Sajid Khan.
After getting the required permits to shoot live in the residential area, the 43-year-old took free-fall tests to parachute into the opening scene.
‘The scene is integral to the story and not just a publicity gimmick. We’ve kept it strictly under wraps because with six cameras stationed on the sets, we want to capture people’s reactions as Akshay jumps down from the heavens above,’ said Khan.
Co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros International, Housefull 2 also stars John Abraham, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Asin Thottumkal, Zarine Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Jacqueline Fernandez and Mithun Chakraborty. Source

Katrina Kaif Is The Sexiest Woman Of 2011

The London beauty in her Bollywood duty Katrina Kaif has yet again topped the list of the Sexiest Women 2011 conducted by the world’s largest men’s lifestyle magazine - FHM.
We all know that Kats is red hot amongst many and even bollywood most eligible bachelors are running for her (you know whom we are talking about).
But to continue to remain delicious and consistently have men go weak on their knees is no mean achievement.
Kabeer Sharma, Executive Editor of FHM India says “We’d love to say 2011 was a close contest…only Sheila made sure it was far from. A feat that becomes even more significant because no woman in the world across all 28 editions of FHM has ever won the Sexiest Woman in the World title three times in the last 17 years that we’ve been making the list. Her average is higher than Sachin Tendulkar’s and she replaces Deepika Padukone who won the crown in 2010,”
The FHM 100 Sexiest Women poll is based entirely on online polls and SMS with a whopping number of over 35,000 entries being cast this year.
Katrina Kaif has previously been voted the Sexiest Woman in the World by FHM India in 2008 and 2009. Source
