Aamir Has To Be A Little More Careful

Abhay Deol was right. Post the super success of his ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Murder 2', he was confident that stocks of their next film together, ‘Shanghai’, would be sky high.
Well, his belief has stayed on to be true, what with the makers of ‘Shanghai’ willing to take on none less than Aamir Khan.
“‘Shanghai’ has been confirmed for release on India’s Republic Day i.e. 26th January next year. Now this is the same date that was locked for Aamir Khan’s next with Reema Kagti which is rumoured to be titled ‘Dhuaan’”, confirms a trade source.
Now this is nothing less than shocking because in the times when no film would dare to come anywhere close to an Aamir Khan starrer, ‘Shanghai’ has taken it heads on and that too after making a sudden announcement. “It makes sense though for the film since it is a political thriller and reflects the state of the country that we live in. With corruption and scams all around us, it is a good marketing strategy to bring a topical film like on the Republic Day”, adds the source.
One wonders though whether Aamir would be equally thrilled with this development since this would be pretty much a first for him. Whether it was ‘Ghajini’, ‘3 Idiots’ or ‘Dhobi Ghat’, all of them have arrived without anyone daring to enter Aamir’s territory. However Emraan and Abhay are pretty much doing that now.
Says Dibakar Bannerjee, “Frankly I have been stunned by the performances from our stars and our character artistes. I can safely say that all preconceived notions that people have about both Abhay and Emraan are going to be shattered by this movie. I can’t wait to get to the edit table to shape this movie into one that will bring out the best of these performances.” On the other hand Kamal Gianchandani, President, PVR Pictures (which has produced the film) also confirmed that ‘Shanghai’ would arrive on 26th January since there is ‘no better date’. According to these sources, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani have now approached Aamir to enact the title role, thus taking the MUNNABHAI series to the next level. But the man in question, Aamir Khan, laughs off the development.
“Really? Is that what people are saying? I am unaware of it,” Aamir tells me. Even if Aamir is unacquainted with the rumor, will he step into Sanju Baba’s shoes and essay the lovable character of Munnabhai, if the makers offered him the role? “No way! I think there cannot be a better Munnabhai than Sanju. If the makers do approach me with the role in question, I would hand over Sanju’s cell phone number to them,” he smiles. Sanju Baba fans can heave a sigh of relief! Source

Aamir Khan & Sharman Joshi To Replace Sanjay & Arshad In Munnabhai Series

Aamir Khan fans can now expect their favorite star taking up a new challenge as rumors say that he will be seen playing the iconic screen character of ‘Munna Bhai’ in the upcoming films of the franchise.
Khan, one of Bollywood’s most critically acclaimed actors, will replace an ageing Sanjay Dutt who has played the character in the first two films of the much-loved series, media reports said.
But it will not only be Aamir who will be seen delivering the teasing dialogues in lovable gunman’s style that has become a cult, as viewers will also reportedly see a new Circuit, Munna Bhai’s trusted sidekick, in the upcoming movie of the series.
The character Munna Bhai’s assistant named Circuit, which was played by actor Arshad Warsi in the last two films of the series will be replaced by actor Sharman Joshi, media reports said.
It is speculated that director Rajkumar Hirani had decided to replace Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi while shooting for the film 3 IDIOTS that featured both Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles.
Both Aamir and Sharman had entertained the fans in the hugely popular film 3 IDIOTS and it will be interesting to see how they perform as the marked screen pair of Munna and Circuit.
Khan will also be seen stunning his fans in the third film of the adrenaline rushing ‘DHOOM 3'.

Aamir Khan’s Midas Touch Turns Delhi Belly Into Gold

‘Delhi Belly’s’commercial success has been important not just for Imran and Aamir but also Bollywood in general as it has opened a window for a new genre of cinema in Bollywood. Of course there is a segment of audience that has loathed the movie but this is the second decade of the new millennium which means there are enough followers of such cinema that have enabled heavy footfalls. For the ones with a conservative mindset, the film has precious little to offer. However the multiplex going junta which has been exposed to movies coming from Hollywood, ‘Delhi Belly’ is progressive cinema by all means as reflected in countless positive reviews that it gained for itself.
As for ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’, it was clearly swept under the wave of ‘Delhi Belly’. It was expected as well, more so since ‘Transformers’ too had released on the same date. Many followers of Bachchan Sr. had expected that ‘Delhi Belly’ would come crashing down after Friday which would end up benefiting ‘Bbuddah….’ to show rapid progress.
Well, that was not the case to be as ‘Bbuddah…’ stayed miles behind ‘Delhi Belly’ over the entire weekend and though it did show improvement with every passing day, the jump in collections was not major enough to be termed miraculous.
Resultantly ‘Bbuddah’ ended up collecting around 6.5 crores over the weekend once it sustained itself after a so-so 20%-30% opening. The film can take solace from the fact that it has seen mostly decent to very positive reviews as well as word of mouth which means it has in it to try and stay afloat for one more week at the least. So even though a mega earner is certainly ruled out, there are good chances for this out and out Bachchan show to turn into a coverage affair at the least. Mid- level budget should further help it’s cause. However the fact cannot be denied that if only ‘Bbuddah…’ would have arrived alongside lesser competition, it would have done far better than how it has performed now. Source

Aamir Khan Organized A Special Screening Of ‘Delhi Belly’ For Raj Thackrey & His Friends

Famous politician Raj Thackeray walk in with Aamir Khan to Ketnav, a theatre where the star screened his latest production Delhi Belly, last night, it did not surprise us much. However, it did catch our eye.
“Raj found that many of his friends wanted to watch the film too. Hence he requested for a special screening. Aamir was too happy to oblige!” informed a source. “The actor however did not sit for the entire screening himself and decided to let Raj enjoy with his family and friends. They were cheering and clapping throughout the film!” added the source.
This is not the first time Aamir has organised screenings for Raj Thackray. He had earlier organised special screenings for his film Dhobi Ghat and Peepli Live for the politician.
And while the producer was busy organising shows for his friends, the three lead actors, Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapoor were busy trying to ‘pencher’ their rivals at the box office in their unique way.
At a party, the lead trio sat down to sing a song from their film. And Vir Das tweeted the picture on Saturday tagging it ‘Pencher, pencher, pencher’. Well, they did manage to do that with a superb opening. Source

Aamir Khan To Write A Film For Kiran Rao

Besides being a prolific actor and filmmaker, Aamir Khan has even penned the story for one of his early films - ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and wrote the screenplay for ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke’.
Now, he is all set to wield the magic of the pen with a new script that he is co-writing with wife Kiran, cousins Mansoor and Nuzhat Khan.
Speaking to IBNLive, Aamir divulges his plans, “I intend to work once again as a writer. I have been co-writing a script with Kiran, Mansoor and Nuzhat. We start next month.”
Aamir all set to write new film, Kiran to direct.
Holding his plans close to his chest, the filmmaker chooses to give out only limited information: “It is originally my idea which I discussed with the rest. But the process is still in a very early stage.”
Surprisingly, Aamir does not want to direct this project and instead says Kiran will be taking over the director’s hat.
He also adds that the film that will take shape from the script will belong to the mainstream genre. But he does not rule out further participation in the project. He admits, “Hopefully I will be acting in the film.” Some of his most recent films like Peepli Live, Dhobi Ghat and Taare Zameen Par have all been offbeat films.
Apart from dishing out these details, Aamir chose to keep mum on the project. However, he said that if the script works out, he will start work on the film only after he wraps up his next film Dhoom 3. He said, “If the script gets locked in another four to five months, then I can confirm it in another six months.” Source

Aamir Khan Served With An Adult Sign For ‘Delhi Belly’

Right from day one, Aamir Khan maintained that his latest production, DELHI BELLY is strictly for adults. And with the way the film is being promoted including the nasty song tracks, it was quite certain the film will not bag a ‘U’ or a ‘UA’ certificate.
So it comes as no shock that Imran Khan starrer DELHI BELLY has been passed by the Censor Board with an ‘A’ certificate, as per the reports. However, the team of DELHI BELLY can heave a sigh of relief as the Censor has cleared the film without any cuts.
Starring Irman Khan, Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Shenaz Treasurywala, Poorna Jagannathan, the much touted youth flick DELHI BELLY hits the screens on July 1. Source

Aamir Khan’s Gift To His Father

Flashback: Between 1969 and 1994, a producer who was always inevitably struggling launched 12 films, many of which didn’t exactly set the boxoffice on fire. Fast forward to June 2011: The beleaguered producer’s son decides to buy the perpetual rights to 11 of those films for a few crore, more in a fit of nostalgia and less with commerce in mind. Such a transaction wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows in the big stakes environs of Bollywood. Except that in this case the son buying the perpetual rights is a certain Aamir Khan. The producer is the late Tahir Hussain who died last year at age 71.
Ironically, the one film whose rights are in dispute and therefore not with Khan is one in which he stars, called ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’. “My father was not a top-notch producer like say Yash Chopra or Gulshan Rai. As kids, we have seen really close the lows of his films failing really close,” says a dewy-eyed Khan. Memories of those times still make the emotions well up inside Khan.
In the absence of corporate and institutional finance, almost all producers borrowed money from the market at ridiculously high interest rates. Business wasn’t Hussain’s forte; that apart, long delays in the completion of films and a string of turkeys at the box-office resulted in a Domino Effect on the Khan family.
Khan recalls his and his brother’s name being up on the school notice board for as many as six months for non-payment of fees. His mother, he adds, would make their uniforms three sizes too large so that they would last longer. “The toughest times were during `Locket’ (starring Jeetendra and Rekha, 1986), which took eight years to complete, or even earlier — ‘Khoon Ki Pukar’ (1978) which took three years. Actors troubled him with dates and there would be at least 30 calls a day from creditors calling for their money,” recalls Khan. Calling up farflung theatres across the country for collections is a vivid, if painful, memory as the figures were invariably imminently forgettable. Hussain for his part did give breaks to a lot of young talent like Reena Roy, Rakesh Roshan , Raj Babbar and Bappi Lahiri, among others.
The rough road his father traversed would explain why Khan avoided wearing the producer’s cap for years.
“It’s a thankless job because after employing an entire unit you get all the brickbats for things going wrong; and when the film becomes a hit, the creative talent gets all the credit, never the producer,” says Khan. The reality, he adds, is that if it hadn’t been for the producer, the creative talent would not have got an opportunity. Source

Aamir Khan Records The ‘Dhoom Machao’ Song In His Voice

Maybe he secretly pines to be a singer. It certainly seems like it, as Aamir never loses an opportunity to flex his vocal chords, this time getting ready to record a song for ‘Dhoom 3'.
Aamir, who made waves for signing up to play the baddie in the third instalment of the action adventure series, will be ’singing’ a song for the movie in his own, trademark style. Tabloid sources have been quoted saying that Aamir will be voicing a few lyrics rhythmically, just like he has done in the past, rather than actually sing.
The first two entries in the ‘Dhoom’ series have been huge chartbusters, just like their box office performance. And music director Pritam is hoping to stick with the formula and repeat this musical success, even recruiting Aamir for some extra good luck.
In the past, B’town’s biggest star has sung for films like ‘Mela’, ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Taare Zameen Par’. And of course, there was his smash hit duet with Alka Yagnik, ‘aati kya Khandala’, from ‘Ghulam’, that turned the title of the track into a catchphrase for all aspiring ‘roadside Romeos’. Source

I never thought I would fit in this kind of film,” Aamir told reporters at a press meet here.

It’s rebonding that occurred a decade later…and it was all in step. Well, truly, considering that Farah Khan has opted to choreograph a song number for the Imran Khan starrer ‘Delhi Belly’. Incidentally, it was Aamir Khan who requested her to accept the offer.

Aamir Khan Recalls His Experience With Late Smita Patil

Her inimitable blend of talent and beauty set her a class apart. On her death anniversary, the late Smita Patil, is remembered by cinebiz folks with express fondness. Moviemaker and screenwriter Aruna Raje, who shares her b’day (October 17) with Smita has often mentioned in interviews that “nobody could touch her in terms of talent.” Mahesh Bhatt, who helmed ‘Arth’, spotlighting Smita in the reel life version of the late Parveen Babi, often described Smita as “a real livewire.”
Among those who’ve had a brief interaction with the late actress was Aamir Khan, whose lone meeting with her also boasts of a beverage twist.
Delving into flashback, Aamir, who’s a good decade younger than Smita, recalls the time when she had come to the sets to meet his uncle Nasir Hussain, when he was assisting him way back in the 1980s.
States Aamir in a tabloid quote, “I remember Smitaji was shooting on an adjacent set. After pack up, she dropped in on our sets to meet Nasir saab. I’d heard so much about her and adored her in ‘Bazaar’. I was a huge fan of Smitaji and was very curious to have a close look at her. I ran to serve her tea.”
By a twist of Providence, it was Aamir who ushered the late Smita’s scion Prateik into cinedom with an impressive cameo in ‘Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na.’ Furthermore, he reinforced his faith in the young actor with his lead role in Aamir Khan Prouctions’ ‘Dhobi Ghat’ too. Source

Karan Johar To Bring Shahrukh & Aamir Together

Folks, Indians, Bollywood men and the women, B-town Baadshah Shahrukh Khan is in tremendous pressure. No it has nothing to do with the Rajni ‘Robot’ challenge to his dream ‘Ra.One’; it’s beyond…..
Shahrukh is in dharma sankat situation. He is finding it difficult to choose between profession and a friend like Karan Johar. There were reports in the media some time back that Karan Johar might end up doing the biggest casting coup of Bollywood by bringing the arch rivals Shahrukh and Aamir together in one of his mega project.
Everybody denied that but gave a breather by saying that they may work together if something really exciting comes up.
Now we come to know from our trusted insiders that the project is waiting a yes with a big ‘Y’ from the Bollywood Baadshah Shahrukh Khan and psssssssssst… Aamir has agreed…!
Unbelievable..! It’s always the other way round for the perfectionist Aamir who says yes after giving it a deep thought but here sources claim that Aamir has agreed for the Karan Johar project with Shahrukh.
Sources close to Shahrukh claim that SRK wants to ensure that the movie gives fair and equal chance to the super khans of Bollywood Shahrukh and Aamir so that both of their fans don’t feel disappointed.
Aamir’s involvement in his projects is well known and SRK has full faith in his close buddy Karan Johar who is instrumental in King Khan’s rising stardom post DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) days.
SRK doesn’t want any involvement. Shahrukh’s doubts are fair but Aamir’s nod is quite surprising. Sources claim it’s not Aamir’s professionalism alone it’s the ‘I’ factor for the yes from mamujan. Imran and Karan are in good terms since ‘I Hate Luv Storys’.
Guys.. If you still think that this is just a gossip then remember the fact that Karan Johar has the record of bringing the titans of Bollywood together in his films. For example KKKG (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham) which starred Big B, Shahrukh, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena. In KANK (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna) he got Big B, Shahrukh, Abhishek with Rani and Preity Zinta…
So Karan can orchestra this casting coup and the mighty khans Shahrukh and Aamir will come together if the King Khan bows down and says Yes. Source

Aamir & Shahrukh Take It Globally

The year 2011 could very well be the decisive year in the Shah Rukh Khan-Aamir Khan battle for one-upmanship. If all goes according to plan, next year both the superstars will go international with a film each by two of the most celebrated directors on the global map.
What gives the global war of the Khans a cutting edge is the striking similarity in location of the two proposed projects. Both films are set in Mumbai, with the city playing as large a role in the script as each of the Khans.
While Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is ready to adapt Suketu Mehta’s celebrated novel, Maximum City to screen, Aamir is set to play the lead in Paul Schrader’s X-Treme City for producer Anubhav Sinha, to be shot in Dharavi.
Both films are realistic takes on present-day Mumbai, its splendour and stench. Boyle and Schrader have already visited Mumbai a number of times and met the two stars who have reportedly agreed to be part of the respective films.
Says a common friend of the two stars, “At the end of the day, a film about life in Mumbai is a film about life in the city. Even if two different directors from two different continents (Boyle is British, Schrader is American) work on two different projects, the spirit of the city is bound to be a common thread. ”
It is this overlap that the two filmmakers are said to be addressing. Says a source, “The teams behind both projects are aware that Mumbai is the hero of both films.
Both films are going to be shot in crowded localities of Mumbai. The problem is to figure out how to give the two films different looks. ”
Boyle has an edge, though. He has been there, done it before in Mumbai with Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire. He knows what facet of the city he will highlight in Maximum City.
Sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who once again teams up with Danny Boyle after Slumdog, says no two films about Mumbai can ever be the same, even if shot by the same director. “Mumbai is a versatile city. Maximum City will be very different from Slumdog. ” Source
